Passengers on Disney’s oldest cruise ship will soon get more bang for their buck thanks to a huge renovation project. The 15-year-old floating city is getting fitted with a series of phenomenal deck-top attractions, including a massive water slide called the AquaDunk.
The Disney Magic’s newest attraction is being built to please passengers looking for thrills and chills at sea. The water slide will be situated on the ship’s forward funnel and features a translucent tube and trap door where passengers wait a near-vertical free fall. When the door opens, riders drop nearly 40 feet before being shot through a loop over the side of the vessel.
The ship’s deck-top makeover also includes treats for Disney’s youngest passengers such as a new interactive water playground called the AquaLab. The kid-friendly area will include a shallow pool and small looping water slide as well as sprayers, pop jets, and various fountains.
According to Disney cruise officials, the Aqualab will take the place of the ship’s Mickey Pool. The famous swimming area was a signature feature designed in the shape of a Mickey head with round ears. While the iconic pool will no longer be part of the Magic, company spokespeople say they are hoping the new deck-top attractions will give passengers more opportunities to bond while at sea.
Another new addition to the Magic that will help families stretch their vacation dollar is called Nephews’ Splash Zone. The themed area is a tribute to Donald Duck’s nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. It is specifically created for kids three years and older and includes a pool, fountains, squirting figures in shape of Donald’s nephews, plus a collection of water jets.
Adults will also be gaining a new Quiet Cove Pool. The addition includes a covered lounge area and pool which is off limits to children. Disney officials say the adults-only area is being built in response to customer demand for a quiet place to relax while the ship is at sea.
