Getting Out of a Fitness Slump

Are you in a fitness slump? Anyone who has been exercising for any amount of time tends to hit these at some point or another.

Coming out of a long winter for some, you may have been feeling the monotony of working out at the gym, running on your treadmill and using the stationary bike. But with warmer weather comes the chance to get out of the same-old, same-old and try something new.

Being stuck indoors can put anyone in a fitness slump. There is just something about fresh air that gets the blood coursing.

Get outside and walk or jog. Take advantage of the warmer temperatures to enjoy the outdoors. Walk or run by the lake, through a trail or around the neighborhood.

Take along a friend or put on some music with your iPod. These are just some ways you can make your walk or run more enjoyable.

How about dusting off the bike and taking a ride around town? When you have small errands to run, skip driving and ride your bike instead. You will get in some exercise, accomplish something and feel better about yourself.

This is also the time of year when softball teams are starting up. Join a league. You will get to meet new people and burn some calories in an enjoyable way.

The thing about fitness is that sometimes we make it too much about work and not enough about fun. You will find yourself in a slump much faster if you aren’t incorporating activities that are actually enjoyable.

You might even consider something you never thought you would try, such as rollerblading. Get adventurous. Go swimming in the lake. Hike a mountain. Play tennis or a round of golf.

You can get out of that slump if you try something new. What new thing can you do this spring season?
