Getting Past Discouragement

Last week I expressed some discouragement over the lack of change I was seeing in my body, despite eating healthier and exercising for two months now. I pleaded with others to “Develop a Healthier Lifestyle Earlier in Life” because I am seeing the affects of waiting until you are older.

Because I was feeling discouraged, I ended up caving in this past weekend to food that I should not have. I think deep down inside I was thinking, “What’s the use? I might as well eat what I want.” Then my treadmill got moved over the weekend to a spot where I can’t even use it. We are in the middle of construction in our basement, finishing some rooms and it was in the way so my husband had to move it. I asked him what I was supposed to do now. Although deep down inside I think I was also looking at it as an excuse to not use it.

I don’t know about you but I can easily “fall off the wagon” when I feel discouraged. One step backwards leads to two more and so on. It would have been so easy to start off this week on the wrong path but I managed to overcome those feelings of discouragement.

I live in Wisconsin so it’s been cold and snowy the past few months. Last week the temperatures warmed up and most of the snow melted. This week we are looking at temperatures being in the 40’s, which to me is like a heat wave. So this morning I decided to start again. I may have allowed myself to fall this past weekend but I was not going to let it have victory over me.

The answer was obvious. I can’t use the treadmill but I can certainly take a walk outside. It was still around 26 degrees when I started off but within a few minutes my body had warmed up enough that I was able to enjoy a really nice walk. When I came back I had a delicious bowl of Fiber One cereal and felt really great.

I guess my point is to never give up. Even if you take a step back you can always move forward again. We have to get past our discouragement and not let it win. All we can do is try again. So be encouraged today!
