Getting Ready for Fall Cleaning

Although the fall season isn’t quite here, it is definitely on the horizon. Here in my neck of the woods the temps are supposed to start dropping this weekend, a sure sign of what is to come.

One of the things I do in the fall is what I call “fall cleaning.” It is similar to “spring cleaning,” but with a little bit of a different emphasis. You see, I’m getting the house ready for the colder months in which the windows will be shut and we will be spending more time indoors.

What I do during fall cleaning is pretty much the same as in the spring. It’s just that my goals are to make the inside of my home as toasty and comfy as possible.

One of my cleaning jobs is the windows. I like to make sure they are cleaned for the second time in the year, including the screens. I vacuum out the windowsills and wash the window treatments.

If you have an older home, you might want to put up the storm windows or at least make sure they are handy. Purchase some caulk so you have it ready in case you need to put some around your windows to keep out the drafts.

The other big focus is getting out as much dust as possible. Although I do dust on a regular basis, there are still areas it can collect that I may not get to…such as behind the couch or entertainment center.

So this is a great time to move the furniture and get into every nook and cranny. You want to try and eliminate as much dust as you can before the house is closed up.

Fall cleaning can also give you a jumpstart on preparations for the upcoming holidays, as they will be here before you know it.
