Gift Giving for Teens

TeenagersBlack Friday…Cyber Monday.  It’s that time of year, the purchasing of Christmas gifts.  As a parent it can either be a stressful experience or easy-going.

Here is something I have come to realize through the years.  You buy more when they are younger.  So that means more thought needs to be put into your children’s gifts.  You buy less as they get older.  But they also tend to be more expensive gifts.

There is a part of me that misses shopping for toys.  It has become sort of boring, since the majority of the time my children want money.  Sure, it makes life easier but with no presents under the Christmas tree, it looks so bare.

Thankfully this year one of my children wants an actual gift.  So I will have at least one item to wrap.  But I still have the opportunity to fill their stockings with fun things for St. Nick.  I don’t know who enjoys that more, them or me.  And no, I don’t believe they are too old.

So what do you buy a teenager?  Girl or boy, gadgets are always a hit.  Portable hard drives allow teens to store their favorite music, videos and games.

If you are feeling generous, a smart phone might be a great gift idea for your teen.  Beware of data charges, however.  They can really add up.

If your teen especially enjoys listening to music, an iPod would be perfect.  But you might also consider a docking station.  These not only charge the iPods but they allow the music to be played through speakers.

A Kindle Fire is another great idea.  In one device your child can read books, go on the internet, watch videos and listen to music.  They are also priced very low.

Does your teen enjoy taking pictures?  How about a digital camera?  Or you might consider a handheld DVD player.

What other ideas do you have for gift giving when it comes to teens?
