Grateful For My Work

Sometimes you just get lucky when it comes to finding work that suits you well. A couple of years ago, I decided to try my hand at freelance writing. At the time, I was a stay at home mom looking for work that I could do from home for an hour or two a day to help pay the bills. I knew that I could write well, and there were no real startup costs to speak of. All that I knew when I started was that the work met my criteria for a flexible schedule and home – based location. What I did not know at the time was just how much I would come to enjoy my work.

I am still a stay at home mom and I still work just a few hours each day. Most of my time is spent taking care of my two little boys. I do my work during some of the time that they are napping or sleeping. Often, I find myself thinking thankful thoughts about how fortunate I am that the work I do is appealing to me. To be quite honest, if it were not so appealing it would not get done because there are so many things that I could do with that time instead – like have more “me” time, for example.

The work that I do as a writer is so enjoyable that I actually feel like I am indulging in some “me” time when I am working. Sure, there are days when deadlines loom large or when inspiration is hard to come by, but those days are few compared to the days that I look forward to sitting down at the computer after tucking the boys into bed. I know that I am lucky, and it is my wish for all home based professionals that they may experience the joy of finding work that they love.
