Halloween Family Travel: Fun and Freaky

Halloween is a family-friendly holiday. However, if you have a number of kids spanning a wide age range, it can be challenging to find a Halloween-themed event that can be enjoyed by the entire clan. Fortunately, there are quite a few travel attractions that feature thrills and chills appropriate for kids of all ages, including:

LOWRY PARK ZOO BOO

The “family-friendly fright zone” at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo features Halloween fun for young and old alike. Older kids will love navigating haunted houses, spooky trails, and a creepy Egyptian tomb, while younger trick-or-treaters can satiate their sweet tooth by collecting goodies at candy stations around the zoo. There’s also a kid’s roller coaster, mini train and carousel, plus a Boogie Monster Bounce House and amusement park-style games.

LITTLE ROCK BOO AT THE ZOO

Little Rock, Arkansas, is the place to be if you have a family of mini ghouls and goblins. The Boo at the Zoo event has a variety of thrills and chills, including special lighting, fog, ghost stories by a fire, and a new haunted house for braver kids. For the younger set there is a hay maze, costume contest, and “Frankenstein’s wedding,” where friendly zombies take to the dance floor with kids and their parents. Trick-or-treating starts at 6 p.m. when kids can collect candy at 14 different treat stations throughout the zoo.

HALLZOOWEEN

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s Halloween event shows visitors how animals celebrate the holiday. Highlights include: Snow Monkey Pumpkin Hide and Seek, Gorilla Pumpkin Hunt, Elephant Pumpkin Smash and the Polar Bear Pumpkin Bob. There’s also a scare-ousel, magic show, haunted train ride, pumpkin-carving contests and a scavenger hunt for kids of all ages.

LUXOR HAUNTED TOURS

If you are planning to be in Las Vegas during the month of October, then consider heading over to the Luxor for some family-friendly spooks. The resort is offering haunted tours at “Titanic, The Artifact Exhibition.” In the weeks leading up to Halloween the existing Titanic tour is injected with spooky fun, including ghost story presentations by Titanic scholars, who go in-depth describing the haunted remains of the infamous ocean liner. You will also get to see the Titanic’s grand staircase and the largest piece from the wreckage that was pulled up from the ocean floor.
