Happy Holidays: Welcome to December

Good morning and welcome to Friday, December 1st, there are just 24 shopping days left until Christmas. I’ve always wanted to write that for some reason and well, there you go, I’ve achieved a goal for myself in just a few keystrokes of typing. This month, we celebrate our first anniversary here at Families.com, last month we celebrated our 1000th post and much, much more.

Our Holiday Plans

This month we’re all going to be busy, we’re all making holiday plans, some of us are traveling, some of us are staying home – some of us celebrate with Santa Claus for our children, some of us emphasize the Christian meaning of Christmas, some of us celebrate Hanukah, Kwanzaa and Solstice – yet all of us celebrate in some fashion.

There will be a series of articles on celebrating the multi-cultural and religious meanings of the coming weeks. We also have two interviews with married couples who have different religious beliefs and mingle their cross-cultural lives to the best of their abilities.

We’re going to talk about shopping for our spouses and how to pick out those gifts that are just right for them. We’re also going to talk about shopping for our in-laws and what a delicate tightrope that can be to balance on between demonstrating caring, but not going overboard.

Celebrating Your First Holiday Season Together as a Married Couple?

Many of us have been there and we’re going to talk more about blending holiday traditions, but also how to create your own traditions that will then be passed down to your children and your grandchildren. I’ll grant you, the first year you are married, you are not likely thinking about sitting on the porch and sharing your tales with a grandchild, but someday – you will and these are some of the years you will be thinking about.

We’ll continue to discuss marriage in the news, the marriage debates and more – we’re winding up 2006 here at the Marriage blog and we’ve got a lot to do! What are your plans for this holiday season?
