Have You Googled Yourself Into Thinking That You Are Pregnant?

Most of us can remember a time when we had a pregnancy scare. Although being pregnant is a wonderful thing much of the time, there are certain times when the thought of becoming pregnant is not very appealing and sometimes quite scary. Perhaps you were in a new relationship, or a relationship that you were beginning to feel would not work out after all. Maybe you were young and not ready for a baby yet. Perhaps you already had one or more children and did not want to increase your family size again. Whatever the situation was, you were just going along merrily and then something felt weird.

Perhaps your period was late. Maybe you felt physical symptoms that you had never felt before. Or, if you had been pregnant before you felt something that you had felt in a previous pregnancy. Whatever it was that you were feeling, you may have suspected that you were pregnant. Alternatively, you may have just thought that you were coming down with a touch of something until you Googled your symptoms and “early pregnancy” came up as the first search result.

Yes, that’s right. Google. I wonder how many more pregnancy scares there have been since Googling one’s symptoms became common practice. So many of the symptoms of the common cold, allergies, and a whole long list of other maladies overlap with those of early pregnancy. I am sharing this because I Googled myself into a pregnancy scare this week, even though I am a full time breastfeeding mom of a baby who is under six months old. For those of you who did not read yesterday’s post, that amounts to odds of ninety eight percent in favor of not being pregnant.

A frantic run to the pharmacy for a pregnancy test informed me that no, I was not pregnant, I was just feeling ill for a day. I have to laugh at myself now for being so silly. Have you got a funny pregnancy scare story? Did you Google yourself into running to the pharmacy to grab a pregnancy test? I’m pretty sure that I am not the only one who has done this. Or am I?
