Holiday Travel Potpourri

We are entering the last days of the travel industry’s “dead zone.”  The period of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is notoriously slow for airlines and hotels.  Consequently, you can snag unbelievable savings on airfare and accommodations if you are willing to travel during the December window.

Some of the best deals are being offered on flash-sale sites.  Right now, SniqueAway.com is offering an amazing deal for travelers who have always dreamed of exploring Sonoma, California.  Popular lodgings in California’s wine country have drastically reduced rates to entice visitors.  For example, Hotel Les Mars has slashed room prices from $435 to just $299 per night during the first two weeks of December.  In addition, Groupon Getaways is also advertising phenomenal money-saving rates, including a sale featuring 47 percent off low-season rates at Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn.  Keep in mind, flash-sale deals don’t last long, so if you are looking to escape to Sonoma this winter, now is the time to act.  Waiting even 24 hours to take advantage of an advertised sale could cost you big bucks.

If you really want to escape the hustle and bustle associated with the holiday rush, consider jetting off to Ireland.  Airfare to the Emerald Isle has been slashed since it’s the low-season there.  A bargain-priced vacation is not hard to find if you book and travel before January.  Budget airline Aer Lingus is offering roundtrip flights to Dublin from Boston for as low as $599.  Compare that to summer fares which top $850 and you are looking to save a bundle.  Another low-price option is a travel package.  Some bundled tours are going for as low as $950 and include five nights’ accommodations, a car rental, and round-trip airfare.  The same package sells for $1,800 during the summer, so if you are into frugal travel, winter is the best time to set-off on a merry Irish holiday.
