I last wrote about my aversion to teen idols and my philosophy that teens should not be idolizing TV and movie stars. As I mentioned in that article, many of these teen stars are grown men and women which is even more reason for teens not to be following their everyday life and emulate them.
Following, is a list of “teen” stars, both old and new and their true ages. I believe it is important for parents to discuss this with teens so they will understand that they cannot do everything that “teens” on TV do.
Jason Earles who plays Jackson, Hannah Montana’s brother is 32 years old. His birthdate is April 26, 1977. His resume listed his birthday as 1985 shaving 8 years off his life. If that were true, he’s still be 24. If you look closely at his picture you can see his shaved of mustache. Kinda creepy huh? I guess it pays to be small. But that’s nothing…
Melissa Joan Hart from Sabrina the teenage witch was about 20 when the show started and 26 when the show ended.
Dwayne Hickman was 29 when The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis series ended.
Chace Crawford from Gossip heartthrob is 24 years old.
Ron Palillo who played Horshack on Welcome Back, Kotter was 30 when the show ended.
Sarah Michelle Gellar from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was 26 when the show ended.
Taylor Kitsch who plays Riggins) on Friday Night Lights is almost 28.
The star of Smallville, star Tom Welling is nearly 32. Who knew the series will last so long.
The Jonas brothers who just landed a Disney channel show are barely teens. Kevin is 21, Joe is 20 yeas old, and the youngest, Nick just finished high school (homeschooled) and is about to turn 17 years old.
Raven-Symone’ from That’s so Raven was 21 when the show ended and she filmed Cheetah Girls 2, playing a high school Junior. Raven’s buddy, Chelsey was 22 when the show ended.
High School Musical has good reason for bringing in a new and younger class with the next movie. Zac Efron is 21, Vanessa Hudgens is 20 (old enough to circulate her nude pictures), Ashley Tisdale is 24, Lucas Grabeel (Ryan) is 24, Corbin Bleu is 20, and Monique Coleman is 28 (Frankly, I thought she was in her 30’s.)
Drake and Josh were respectively 22 and 21 when they aired Merry Christmas Jake and Josh who played teenagers still being tormented by their little sister.
The iCarly girls Miranda Cosgrove and Jeanette McCurdy are a few years older than their 14-15 year old characters. They are 16 and 17 years old.
The actor playing Miranda Cosgrove’s big brother in iCarly, Jerry Trainor, is old enough to be her father at age 32. His Character Spencer is 26. He is the same age as Hannah Montana’s TV brother.
