How to Create Your Own Fruit Basket Arrangement for Less

There is a company that makes the most beautiful flower-like arrangements out of edible fruit. They are as expensive as they are beautiful. In addition to this gift being expensive, the perishable nature of the fruit used in these baskets necessitates consuming the gift immediately, or allowing it to go to waste. While these ready made baskets are beautiful and make great gifts for dinner parties and other special occasions, they are also very expensive. It occurs to me that should you want to give a gift of this type you can both make it yourself and use a combination of items, some for immediate consumption, and the rest for future use.

As previously mentioned, the original arrangements are full to the brim with highly perishable fruit cut decoratively to resemble a floral arrangement. To create this effect with your own arrangement, Use star fruit which when sliced adds a beautiful decorative effect. You can also create chocolate covered strawberries using both white and dark chocolate. Red and green grapes also create a lovely decorative effect.

Before beginning your arrangement, you will need to find a beautiful basket or bowl in which to place it. Personally, I prefer something that could serve as a gift all on its own such as a pretty platter or bowl. Glass or clear plastic is my preference. However, if you know the recipient to love baskets or other kinds of containers, or if you just get a deal on a certain type of container, by all means go with it.

Arrange all of the aforementioned fruits on tall skewers by first, alternating green and red grapes on each. Next, place either a star fruit piece or chocolate covered strawberry on the end of each.

Once you have the skewers arranged , you will need to arrange them and to also fill the basket. In the bottom of the basket, Place a half sphere of Styrofoam in the bottom of the basket. Hold it in place with fresh grapefruits, oranges, and apples. Once your base is in place, arrange the skewered fruits in the basket. Add more grapes and strawberries in between the skewers to finish off the arrangement.
