I Won The Kids Lotto

I think we really lucked out when we adopted our kids they are truly great kids. I am sitting here stressing out about my husband being in the hospital and my 8 year old Rebecca sees that my eyes are red and she goes over to the bathroom and brings me some tissues because she thought I was going to cry. She came over and hugged me with the hug of more love than any one mother should be allowed to get.

Now I know it is my job as a mom to protect my kids and should be the one comforting them but with these kids they have been our rocks and our comforters. When I was going through my treatment for breast cancer my kids really stepped up they were only 4, 5 and 7.

There was a time that I actually considered if with all our medical issues if the kids would have been better in another family. No I would never give them back. Since day one they were definitely the best thing that I have; but sometimes I think they got the short straw with us. There was a chance that our kids could be without a mom or a dad because of our cancers.

When we started the adoption process I would always hear these horror stories about how some kids do not become attached to their adoptive parents. I never really gave that too much thought I always knew our kids were going to like me. When I was doing my chemo my 5 year old wanted to help me so he started doing laundry, he would wash it, dry it and put it in the right persons basket to put up. If there was no dirty laundry he would put the clean clothes back through. If we asked him not to he thought he was in trouble for something.

Every day each of the kids would rub my head and tell me I was bald but beautiful. The kids are the best I could not have asked for better kids. I definitely won the kids lottery. Maybe that is why I can’t win the big money in the lotto because I already won the best lottery ever.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
