There comes a point in most relationships that forces us to take pause. It is the moment when one comes to the realization that their relationship is not perfect. No, most do not enter into a marriage expecting perfection but let’s face it, the beginning of a relationship is full of excitement and passion and butterflies in your stomach. Once you and your partner begin to settle in to your daily routines and life begins to present challenges or obstacles each partner begins to see the other in a different light.
In most cases one would hope that through these struggles and obstacles you and your partner grow together. Moving in the same direction is so important as it keeps you both focused on similar goals. One of those directions should be the commitment to continue to nurture and grow your relationship so that it is mutually satisfying.
There are those occasions when you are faced to weather a rough time together as a team and you come to the realization that your partner did not meet your expectations. Sometimes a partner will appear weaker or too head strong in a situation and you possibly had expectations of them being the opposite in a similar scenario. Other times it may be that your partner is not as tidy as you had once hoped. Sure in the beginning it was one of their silly characteristics that you really did not mind but after a year or so you find it grinding on you like sandpaper.
Having an intimate relationship with someone such as marriage takes compromise and acceptance and must be free of judgments. When you meet someone and decide to get married it is so important to determine if they hold any characteristics that have the potential to drive you crazy over time. If they do it will be crucial for you to discuss that with them and see if it is something you will be able to tolerate or not. Go into marriage with the expectation that your partner will not change and eliminate future disappointments.
