Is Your Home Based Business Ready To Weather The Storm?

As Hurricane Sandy makes its way up the East Coast, many home – based professionals are likely to be thinking about what they need to do in order to get ready for the storm. Of course, what each home – based professional has to do to prepare will depend upon where he or she is located. On the more severe end of things, people who have to evacuate their homes must decide if their work is something that they can take on the road with them, or if they must do their best to get everything stored safely away before they get out of town for a bit.

In some areas, even though residents are being permitted to stay in their homes, schools are planning to close for a few days at the beginning of the week. If your work schedule depends upon your children being at school, it may be time to see whether you can put in a few extra hours this weekend to compensate for time that you may not have available when the kids are home for a couple of days. If the storm turns out to be not as severe as it is expected to be and school does not get cancelled, the worst that will happen is that you’ll be a little bit ahead on your work.

Here in Vermont, we could get wind and rain that could cause power outages. I have already cleaned up the yard by taking in the deck chairs and play equipment as well as the hammock. We have plenty of food in the house, and I bought some bottled water the other day. If the power goes out, we have a power inverter that we can plug into a car cigarette lighter. It can power a computer and a cell phone, so if we are without power I can run an extension cord from the car to the house and do my work at the regular time after the kids go to bed at night.

How are you and your home – based business preparing for Hurricane Sandy?
