Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – July 21, 2007

Lindsay Surrenders

Can it be that Lindsay Lohan is really turning over a new leaf? She just left a six-week stint in rehab and has now turned herself into police to face driving under the influence and misdemeanor hit and run charges she received on Memorial Day weekend. It was this incident the prompted her to go to rehab. The 21-year-old actress’ blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. At the time, she was still underage. She is scheduled to appear in court August 24.

Singer Mark Collie Charged with DUI

Technically, I guess this is juicy Nashville tidbits, but country singer Mark Collie was charged with DUI after being found slumped over in his car last Thursday at the Vanderbilt University campus. Collie was released on a $1,500 bond.

Collie had several hits in the early 90’s including “Three Words, Two Hearts, One Night,” and “Even the Man in the Moon is Cryin.” His song “In Time” appeared on the soundtrack of 2004’s “The Punisher” starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta.

Tammy Faye’s Shocking Interview

I must admit that during the 80s, I made fun of Tammy Faye Bakker for her heavy makeup and sappy attitude. I always got the feeling Jim Bakker was a bit fake, so I figured Tammy Faye was as well. But in the years after the PTL scandal and her divorce from Jim, I realized Tammy’s attitude wasn’t really sappy, that was just her naturally happy, joyful personality. I really came to like her as I watched her on talk shows and when she appeared in “The Surreal Life.” Although she was in the house with people far different from her – models, rockstars, and even a pornography star – she was still approachable and didn’t judge anyone.

I knew she was sick with cancer (read Michele’s blog for more info), but I wasn’t quite prepared for her appearance on Larry King Live the other night. The cancer has reduced Tammy Faye to 65 pounds – the same number as her age. I was horrified by what cancer had done to her physically, but it only took moments to see her spirit shine through the ravaged body. She even made a joke! When asked by a fan how she wanted to be remembered, Tammy Faye said for her eyelashes!

It’s obvious that Tammy Faye won’t be with use much longer, but I ask you to keep this strong, genuine woman in your prayers. Also appearing on Larry King was the Bakker’s son Jay. He is also a minister but far different from his father. You can find out more about his Revolution Church at their web site.
