Katie Holmes’ New $43K Makeover and an Unexpected Hollywood Miracle

Recession? What recession?

While the rest of the world (or at least us non-Hollywood types) is pinching pennies in these tough economic times, Tom Cruise’s wife is spending like there’s no tomorrow.

Then again, maybe, Katie Holmes’ $43,000 makeover is just what the economy needs to help stimulate it.

It’s just too bad she couldn’t drop the dough in her home country.

According to reports, Holmes new longer do comes courtesy of some talented hair stylists in Japan. The UK’s Daily Mail claims Holmes shelled out £30,000 – which at today’s exchange rate comes out to more than $43,000 – on hair extensions and a litany of other spa services. The publication reveals that the former “Dawson’s Creek” star spent the better part of 48 hours at the Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo for “intensive pampering sessions by a team of beauty experts.”

In addition to the $3,000 hair extensions, Suri’s mommy reportedly spent $11,000 for skin treatments, $30,000 for tooth veneers, and another (measly) $2,000 for cosmetics.

Tom “cha-ching” Cruise declined to comment on his wife’s purported spa spending spree at the Japanese premiere of his move “Valkyrie.” Apparently, after two previous failed marriages he has learned the priceless art of knowing when to keep his mouth shut.

AN UNEXPECTED HOLLYWOOD MIRACLE

I think the word “miracle” is used far to lightly these days.

Webster defines the word miracle as an “extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing or accomplishment.”

Given that, I think the word “miracle” sufficiently describes the reconciliation between former Hollywood enemies Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards.

The couple spent more than two years engaged in a public war following their separation and subsequent divorce. They fought over anything and everything, including custody of their two young daughters, finances, and property.

He called her a psychopath. She called him a male whore, who had a passion for porn… and those were just the things suitable for print.

Now, it seems the couple have decided to bury the hatchet and “work to get to a really good place,” at least according to Richards, who is currently competing on this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

The former Bond girl says she is moving on with her life and has decided to heal the rift between her and Sheen. In fact, the actress says she even bought a gift for Sheen’s newborn twins. Richards insists the new babies have helped beat the bitterness she once harbored for the man she once referred to as “Satan.”

“It’s important for our daughters and it’s much easier in life for us to get along than have conflict,” Richards told reporters. “Life is too short.”

Call me a cynic; but I don’t buy this miraculous reconciliation was prompted by a couple of newborns. There’s obviously more to this “miracle” than Richards is admitting to…
