Last Minute Holiday Preparations

Housekeeping

The countdown is on!  Are you feeling stressed, frazzled and worried that you won’t get everything done in the next few days?

The holidays are just so much more enjoyable when we aren’t overwhelmed.  But sometimes we bring it on ourselves.  So to help avoid some of this, consider the following tips for last minute holiday preparations.

First, plan to have more than enough food and drink if you are hosting.  This way you don’t have to be concerned about running out and you will have plenty of leftovers for the next couple of days.

Second, keep things simple.  Don’t get too extravagant and don’t concern yourself with cleaning areas of the home that no one will visit or cares about.  Stick to basics such as clean hand towel and enough toilet paper.

Third, if you are going to be a guest at someone else’s house, don’t volunteer to bring five dishes.  Stick to one or two at the very most.

Hopefully there will be others contributing but you shouldn’t feel like its all on you.   Isn’t that the whole point of not being the one to host?

Fourth, if areas in your home are cluttered and there is no time to get rid of it, stash it away in a container.  Don’t worry about sorting things.  Just toss it all in a box, tuck it in a closet and worry about it later.

Lastly, enlist the help of family.  You have an entire weekend to get rid of the cobwebs gracing your ceiling, wiping down dusty baseboards and whitening the tub (yes people really do peek behind the curtain).

In fact, this could be the key to not only getting everything done that you want to, but eliminating stress.  Don’t play the martyr.  And don’t be afraid to admit you need help.  Accept it gracefully.
