Church Callings: Committee Member

There are a variety of committees that function within the church. At first these callings may not seem to be of much importance, but when you are on a committee the work that you do is usually behind the scenes. However, you will do quite a bit of work. You may serve on the Enrichment committee, the activities committee (at the ward or stake level) or on a public relations committee each of these will require you to do different things.

Committees are usually responsible for planning activities or events that take place. You will likely meet with your committee about once a month. You should come prepared to brainstorm ideas for activities or with solutions to problems that may arise. You may want to have specific people in mind that the group can consult if they need to.

Once you have planned an event you will be expected to work on the event. This is a very important aspect of serving on the committee. People often fail to recognize the work that goes into setting up ward activities and other events. You will need to help set up as assigned. You may also need to help out with publicizing the activity to the ward or stake. And of course it is important to help with cleaning up the activity as well.

Committee members really do a lot of work. It is important to recognize that though people may not notice the work you do, they are grateful for it. Only people who have served on the committees will fully understand the true responsibilities that come with the calling. Do not feel like you are in an insignificant calling when you are called to a committee. This is not true. You will help to plan and organize very important events.
