Primary Time: 2008 Theme

The new 2008 theme for Primary Sharing time has been announced. The overlying theme is “I Am a Child of God.” This is a wonderful thing to teach your children. It is one of the most important things that children can learn. Once they realize that Heavenly Father is real and loves them, their entire outlook on life will change. It is important to help your children to realize that Heavenly Father is watching over their lives.

The scripture for the theme is Psalm 82:6: “All of you are children of the most High.” You can help your children to memorize this scripture over the year. You may want to have a family home evening on it as well. Additionally there is a different scripture that goes along with the each month’s theme that you could focus on learning as a family.

The Objective is “to help children to understand that as children of God they are part of an eternal plan and rich blessings are in store for them as they follow Jesus Christ.” The monthly themes focus on understanding the importance of Heavenly Father and the plan of salvation. Other themes focus on drawing closer to Christ through learning about Him by studying the scriptures and keeping the commandments. Others focus on eternal families and how to strengthen them.

The theme is truly wonderful. As parents we can help our children understand that Heavenly Father loves them by the way that we treat them. It is important to teach our children to recognize the blessings that come from our Heavenly Father as well. You can work on this theme in many ways. One simple way is to pray with your children on a regular basis. As your children hear your sincere gratitude for blessings and your pleadings for help—they will learn that you do believe and the beginnings of their testimonies will begin to be formed.
