Limited Time Magic at the Disney Parks

2013 is a big year for the domestic Disney Parks. 2012 saw a lot of change for the both of them, between the reimagined California Adventure and the Fantasyland expansion (the largest in history for the Magic Kingdom). To celebrate, both parks are throwing a party for 2013, called “Limited Time Magic.” One-of-a-kind events will take place at the parks at certain times throughout the year next year. The official Disney Parks blog has a look at some of them.

Two follow holidays: Valentine’s and Independence Day. For Valentine’s the Disney Parks are rolling out “True Love,” an event lasting the whole week where Disney’s princes and princesses will meet park guests in special, romantic settings. The restaurants will also offer prix-fixe menus and Valentines collectibles will be scattered around the park. For the Fourth of July the Disney Parks will throw yet another week-long celebration, with fireworks every night. The castles will also be lit up in patriotic colors, and Mickey Mouse will wear his finest in red, white, and blue.

The only other event currently scheduled for a specific date (or at least for which the date is revealed) is September 13, 2013. That’s a lot of 13’s in one day, which makes it auspicious for the Disney villains. Disneyland and Disney Hollywood Studios will stay open until 1 a.m. (the 13th hour). That evening Disney villains such as Jafar, Captain Hook, and Maleficent will host a dance party.

Fans of rare Disney characters will get a treat: one of the other week-long themes is “Long Lost Friends” week. While it’s usually tricky to arrange or stumble upon meet-and-greets with lesser-known or less popular Disney characters, it won’t be this week. Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, Remy, Clarabelle Cow, and others, will be out all week for photo opportunities. Before the event occurs, fans will have the chance to vote for which characters they’d like to see.

The two other events currently listed for 2013 are “Dapper Dans Sing Boy Bands” and “Pirate Week.” For the former, Main Street U.S.A.’s Dapper Dans group will add a special finale to their shows, singing a variety of hits from the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, One Direction, and more. The latter throws “Talk like a Pirate Day” out of the window and sets it up for the whole week. Both parks will showcase the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, and hold pirate-themed events.

For each special event, expect to find variety of unique, limited-time-only merchandise. The dates for most of the events haven’t been listed yet, and there will likely be more added as we get closer to/head into 2013. As more details for Limited Time Magic appear, I’ll share them here.
