Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah

As sisters Julia and Ellie could not be more different. Julia was shy, quiet, studious while Ellie was the typical small town home coming queen. As soon as Julia could she left their hometown to become one of the best child psychiatrists in the country while Ellie stayed home, married all the wrong men and became a cop.

After the death of their parents the sisters didn’t have much of a relationship. Julia lives in her world and Ellie lives in hers, not seeing what is right under her nose. Then a patient shatters everything Julia thinks she knows about her abilities and makes her doubt that she can help anyone.

While Julia is trying to figure out what to do with her life, Ellie is trying to figure out what to do with the six year old wild child who showed up in her town with a wolf pup. Cold, hungry, scared and seemingly unable to speak, the locals don’t know what to do with this child.

Ellie calls Julia, thinking if anyone can reach this little girl it will be her sister. Julia goes home thinking that Ellie is just feeling sorry for her until she meets the child they call Alice. This is unlike anything she’s ever seen. There are only a few documented cases of children being raised in the wild but Alice seems to fit the profile.

As Julia tries to reach Alice the sisters work on mending their relationship. As Julia breaks through Alice’s barriers she learns as much about herself as she does the child.

Just as she is ready to adopt Alice the worst person imaginable shows up to claim her for his own. Julia finds she needs Ellie to get through and together they figure out how to save Alice while saving each other.
