Making Fitness a Lifetime Goal

How many of us find it easy to start something but much more difficult to finish it? With fitness there really isn’t a finish. In fact, it is meant to be something you do for a lifetime. Just the thought of that can make you tuck tail and run.

Making fitness a lifetime goal doesn’t have to be so daunting. There are ways this can be done that are manageable and realistic.

First, you need to understand that there is no one way to lose weight or gain strength. The options before us are innumerable. This is good news because it means that you have a wide variety of choices and you aren’t stuck doing one thing for the rest of your life.

Imagine if you had to eat the same thing every single day until you died. That would be pretty hard to stick to, wouldn’t it? But with fitness we have so many ways to engage in it that we can easily make it a lifetime goal.

Second, you have to get what the key to fitness is. It’s one word and it is the only word that will make it happen…consistency. Without consistency you won’t get anywhere. But consistency takes discipline so that means for some, working extra hard to find that time to exercise or to get up early in the morning or whatever it means to you.

Third, discover what you enjoy. Don’t join a gym just because you think it’s the only way to fitness. Don’t do anything that you don’t truly enjoy. You will lose the motivation and suddenly fitness will become nothing more than work.

There are lots of great activities that you can incorporate into your day where you are getting exercise but enjoying it at the same time. This is your chance to try a variety of things and perhaps you will discover something you had never imagined you would like.

You really can make fitness a lifetime goal.
