Meet a Families.com Blogger – Mary Ann Romans!

maryannWe are pleased to have freelance writer Mary Ann Romans with us here today. She is the third blogger to join us in our look at the writers that make up the Families.com family. Mary Ann, thanks for joining us!

How long have you blogged for Families.com?

My first blog on Families.com was in December of 2006. At the moment, I have more than 1260 individual blog posts.

How cool is that! What topics do you blog about?

I cover Frugal Living, which is so much fun because finding new ways to save money really exercises the brain cells. It is great to be good stewards of our money.

I also cover the Computing Blog, which really should be called the Technology Blog, because it covers everything from fun and educational websites for kids and software tricks to HDTV technology and making money with technology.

And then there is the Home Blog, which is phenomenal to do because it features so many different areas, from fool-proof do-it-yourself tips and advice about buying or selling a home to the experience of enjoying the birds in the backyard or a beautiful moment at home with the kids.

You’ll also find me guest blogging in the Food Blog, the Deals Blog and whichever other blogs will have me!

What is your favorite thing about blogging for Families.com?

Gosh, it has got to be all of the people that I meet. It really is like a family here. When I write a blog post here at Families.com, it is as if I am inviting them into my home. There is a vulnerability there. But fortunately, our readers are great guests. Everyone is so smart, enthusiastic and supportive. I have learned so much just by being here.

What do you like to do when you’re not blogging?

I’m very family and home oriented, so I would have to say that number one is spending time with my family. We love going on day trips to local attractions, spending time out of doors and delving in to home improvement projects. Of course, I like to have quiet time, once in a while, too. When I’m not writing for parenting and health magazines, I tend to just find a quiet spot and devour a book.

Is there anything in particular you would like our readers to know about you?

If I wasn’t a writer then I would probably want to be an archeologist. There is just something about delving in to the things other people left behind and learning about their culture. I always imagine that future generations will find some mundane remnant of our daily living and misinterpret it. For example, if you had no modern context, would you be able to know what a bread maker was used for, or a toilet brush?

Good point, good point!

Thanks for chatting with me, Mary Ann.
