I’ve written about one of Disney’s most popular live shows, Disney on Ice, but now I’m going to put a spotlight on their newest production, Mickey’s Magic Show. The live performance, currently on tour, takes all the talk about Disney’s magic literally.
While Mickey is obviously the master of ceremonies and grand magician for the show, several other Disney characters and their friends participate as well. First guests fall down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. The Mad Hatter uses his own silly type of magic to play with the White Rabbit, and the Queen of Hearts brings out her cards to play a trick on Alice.
Next they travel to Arabia, where grand illusionists levitate Princess Jasmine from the ground. Then they’re off into a fairy tale as the Fairy Godmother transforms Cinderella from rags to riches in time for her ball with Prince Charming. Of course the show culminates in a fantastic display of brooms brought to sweeping life for Mickey’s main act.
If you’d like to catch a glimpse of Mickey’s Magic Show before it comes to your area, you can travel to its website here for exclusive pictures and video of the event. While there, you can check what dates the show, touring worldwide through the autumn and winter, will arrive in your area.
I think the idea of a Disney-themed magic show is really neat. After all, Disney throws the word “magic” around all the time in its advertising, from descriptions of its movies to promises about its parks. It’s about time that Disney takes itself literally.
As an adult, I would certainly rather go see a magic show that happens to be Disney-themed than a music performance or quick for kids stage-story about Disney. Even as a kid I didn’t take to many live shows, be they Disney-themed or otherwise. I remember being equal parts bored and terrified during a “Muppet Babies” show that I’m sure was perfectly tame, but I was always afraid to see characters from the television in real life. Often I needed some other kind of gimmick, usually in the form of a figure skating performance, to really ignite and hold my interest.
But a magic show really does seem like the perfect venue for a Disney Live spectacular. I’m certain this can’t be the first time those behind Disney Live have thought of the idea, yet it’s the first I’ve ever heard of it.
If you and your family are interested, I would check out the Disney Live website for details about when it’ll be in your area. The show’s continuing for a while, but because it’s on a global tour it usually isn’t in one area for long, and won’t return to the same locale very often, so be sure to grab tickets for the next performance while you can.
