Yes, the summer is still here, and temperatures may still be in the 90s or higher, but it is a perfect time to start making some preparations for Christmas right now. From gifts and decorations to food and entertainment, making the right moves now will be big savings during one of the toughest seasons for the budget.
Stock up on the following items during the summer and fall, while you still can.
Fresh Produce
You’ll get the best prices on fresh produce right now, thanks to the bounty of late summer. Blueberries, strawberries, cherries, corn and other fruit and vegetables will be at their lowest prices. Stock up now and freeze all of this yumminess. When the holidays get closer, you can use it all in baked goods, deserts and jams and jellies, some for eating and some for gifting. What could be better?
Yard Sale Finds
Stock up on basic crafting items that could be used to create gifts. Think of cosmetic jewelry, picture frames, scrapbook binders, yarn, beads, etc. Crafting items abound at yard sales, since many people start a crafting hobby and then find that they either don’t like it or don’t have the time. Also look for items that are new and sealed in the packages or still contain their original tags. These could be used for holiday gifts. Just make sure to give them the once over to check for damage.
Gift cards
What do people do with unwanted gift cards? Sell them of course. You can pick up some great bargains on gift cards if you shop now before the mad rush of the holidays. Most cards don’t expire or carry fees, but double check before you buy. Get 30-70 percent off of the original card’s value. You can use them as gifts or for your own holiday purchases.
