To save wear and tear on your clothing, wash and dry it inside out. This way the inside of the garments get the stress from the agitation and the right sides of the garments are protected, The clothes will still get absolutely clean by this method.

If you have linens that have yellowed over time (maybe you inherited some nice ones) and you want to remove the staining, try this trick. Get a large stainless steel pan from your kitchen. Make sure it isn’t aluminum because the aluminum will cause a chemical reaction. In the pan, dissolve 1/4 cup of powdered Cascade automatic dishwashing detergent in boiling water. Add the yellowed linens and allow them to soak for eight hours. Rinse the linens well and then run them through the regular washing machine.

If you spill something on your clothes while you are away from home, such as in a restaurant, use a small amount of hand sanitizer on the stain. This really works. You will find that most stains will disappear quickly before your eyes. If the stain is large, mix the sanitizer with a little water before applying it to get more coverage.

Fruit stains, such as grape juice or strawberry jam can be removed from tablecloths in plain boiling water. The boiling water actually melts the fruit stains away. You can try this with clothing, too, although the hot water may shrink cotton or delicate items. Use this method as soon as you can after the stain occurs, and don’t try washing it or treating it any other way first.
