More Free Genealogy Websites

In my previous post, I talked about four of my favorite free genealogy websites. Besides the four listed in that post, there are many more free sites available to genealogists. Some of these websites I do not personally use, but in the interest of providing you with as many free resources as I can, I am including them here. I do want to mention that prior to posting any of these sites here, regardless if I have used them during my own personal research, I did spend time reviewing each one to ensure I only provide you with sites that may be useful in your genealogical endeavors.

Ancestral Findings

Ancestral Findings genealogical databases not only include marriage, divorce, birth, and death records, but also immigration information, censuses, obituaries, cemetery records, land records, and military records.

Access Genealogy

Access Genealogy provides millions of free genealogical records to visitors of their website. Much of their information can be broken down by individual states. There is also a nice section for Native American genealogy.

MyHeritage

MyHeritage is a genealogical search engine that searches over 1,500 databases and multiple surname spellings at once. Simply type in your ancestor’s name and click submit. This site is only available for use with Internet Explorer

Virtual Cemeteries

The following is a list of virtual cemeteries (online tombstone transcriptions and photographs). Visitors to these sites can post their own memorials, search memorials that have already been posted, and request photographs of tombstones that may be too far away for them to visit. New records are always being added, so I recommend that you periodically check them for your ancestors. I also recommend that you add to the databases when you photograph new tombstones.
