My Favorite Fitness App

cellphone

There is one application that I simply love for keeping track of my outdoor workouts. It is called iMapMyRun. This has been a really helpful tool in my quest to live a healthy lifestyle.

IMapMyRun is an excellent choice if you do a lot of walking, running, or biking (road or mountain). You have an option of recording a workout you are about to do or logging a workout you have already done. Recording a workout is a great to see your distance, elevation and a map of what you did. The program uses GPS signals to record these features. I use the recording a workout function for mapping out my hikes, jogs, and bike rides.

For example, today I went on an early morning hike with one of my workout buddies. I started iMapMyRun right when we got on the trail and ended the mapping when we finished our hike. After the hike I was able to see the workout detail.

The workout detail section provides you with your start and end time, your duration, your distance, and an estimate of calories burned. This is a great way to keep track of a goal such as biking or hiking a certain number of miles or hours per week.

The application has other features like making your route public to put on Facebook or Twitter, or sharing it with a friend through email. For me I usually don’t post or share my workout, but I like to see the personal progress I have made. The application shows your last 10 workouts and allows you to access the rest of your workouts on their website.

The only thing I don’t like about this app is that there are occasional ads. However, it is a free app and the ads don’t interfere with the mapping.

Check this app out next time you are looking for a new way to log and keep track of your outdoor workouts.
