My Husband & The Television

You know, our lives are comprised of the little moments – moments of transition, moments of revelation and moments of humor. My husband and I talk through instant messages when he’s working. It’s one way we can keep in constant contact and sometimes, it’s a series of leaving messages that the other responds to when they get back to their desk.

February Sweeps

Today launches what the television industry calls the February sweeps period. It’s when they pull out all the stops in order to entertain the audience and draw them in. Their numbers will help them determine what they can charge in advertising revenue. I don’t care so much about the revenue, but I am the beneficiary of the storytelling and I admit it – I’m a junkie for some of the series that are on television.

So the conversation between my husband and I went as follows a little while ago:

Me:[3:21 P.M.]: I rented Barnyard for them to watch
Me [3:21 P.M.]: And they are both planted in the living room and watching it
My Husband [3:21 P.M.]: And you are fleeing, in self-defense, to avoid being exposed to it.
Me [3:21 P.M.]: Yah think?
My Husband [3:21 P.M.]: Uh huh.
Me [3:22 P.M.]: I get new Grey’s Anatomy tonight and I still need to watch my Bones and my Heroes
Me [3:22 P.M.]: I am very happy with February sweeps working diligently to rot my brain
My Husband [3:23 P.M.]: You’re video entertainment rich.
My Husband [3:23 P.M.]: LOL

My husband has never been a huge fan of network television, but since TV on DVD has become available, we enjoy picking up or renting television seasons that we can watch without commercial interruption and more. But thanks to this nifty feature, now I watch weekly – I suppose that was part of the marketing scheme and I am a willing participant. My husband enjoys a few of the same shows I do and we enjoy our date nights occasionally where we watch previously recorded episodes on our DVR.

So I’m excited about February sweeps from the hostage crisis on General Hospital with the various jeopardy confronting different characters (and a great baby secret in the offing) as well as Heroes, Bones, House, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Grey’s Anatomy and The Dresden Files (based on a series of books by one of my all time favorite author, Jim Butcher). So yes, I’m entertainment rich this month and my husband is indulgent.

That’s always a good way to kick off February! What are your favorites this February Sweeps season?
