Natural Ways to Boost Your Energy

cherries Energy drinks, such as 5-Hour Energy and others are a booming industry. Many people rely on these energy drinks to get through the day. I’ve seen them being pulled out of purses, laid on people’s desks, and sold out at the convenience stores. I’ve never tried these drinks myself, so I can’t speak for them, but wouldn’t it be better to try something natural first?

There are several ways to naturally boost your energy levels throughout the day. Many of them are just common sense, but there are a few tricks in there, too.

First of all, getting enough sleep is key. You should aim for 7-8 hours a night in order to be healthy and function well. This is sometimes easier said than done. You’ll need to make it a priority to get your sleep. Set the same bedtime every night, as you do with your kids, and establish a bedtime routine that encourages restful sleep.

Watching television or using electronic devices right before bedtime can stimulate your brain. You might try taking a warm shower or bath, reading a book or listening to soft music as part of your routine. Just doing something slow and pampering every evening can tell your body it is time to sleep.

Try consuming foods with natural melatonin before bed. Melatonin has been found to aid in sleep. Cherry juice is one food that has plenty of natural melatonin in it. Drink a glass of tart cherry juice each night and see if it helps you with a more restful sleep.

When you wake up, seek out natural sunlight. Our bodies are programmed to respond to light. Getting a bit of sun, such as on a short morning walk or by having your breakfast near a sunny window can set your energy levels for the whole day.

You also want to down a big glass of water in the morning. A well-hydrated body naturally has more energy. When you wake up, your body is naturally dehydrated. Drinking coffee only adds to this, as it is a diuretic, that is it has been shown to pull water out of your tissues.
