Never Too Old

I was only 21 when I got divorced. I was extremely young, but I felt like I had lived the life of a much older woman. As time went on I wasn’t sure I would ever get married again. It seemed like I had been single for so long already, I just couldn’t understand why it was taking me so long to find someone again. I felt like I had a lot to offer, but all the men that kept coming into my life were, well…less than what I wanted for me and my son. Stealing credit cards and sneaking inappropriate pictures aren’t the most attractive qualities in a guy, but that’s what I kept getting. I finally took some time off from the whole dating scene. I was really too busy to focus on that anyway, but there were still times when I wondered if I was destined to be the little old cat lady at the end of the street, which would be rather problematic considering my terrible cat allergy.

But today, I read a sweet story that gave me some hope for the future. After 88 years of singlehood, Betty Allshouse of Pennsylvania got married this last November. She had spent her entire life as a single woman. She dated, but the opportunity for marriage had never really presented itself until she was in a retirement home. What a sweet story to know that even if it does take a while, you should never give up hope.

It doesn’t really matter how long it takes. Things will happen when they are supposed to. For some of us that may be 25 others, like Betty, may have to wait a little longer. In the end the most important thing is that you focus on making you and your children happy right now. If you find love again, don’t let it go, but if it takes a little longer than expected, just enjoy the one-on-one time with your little ones. There’s always something to smile about, whether you’ve found love again or not.
