New Hampshire Genealogy

Welcome to New HampshireNew Hampshire has been given the nickname of “The Granite State”. Granite is a stone that is often used for gravestones. The gravestone of your ancestor is one way to learn a little bit more about him or her. Or, you could use one or all of the New Hampshire genealogy resources that can be found in this blog. They should help!

Cyndi’s List is probably the most comprehensive list of genealogy resources online. If it exists on the internet, then odds are that Cyndi’s List has a link to it. They have a page called “United States – New Hampshire”. You can start by selecting one of many categories. Some categories include: “Birth, Marriage, Death”, “Census”, “Counties”, “Military”, “Newspapers”, and more!

GeneaLinks has a search engine at the top of its page. Put the name of your ancestor in it. Choose which type of record to search: vital, birth, death, marriage, divorce, or “Genealogy”. GeneaLinks has helpful information for genealogists who are new to New Hampshire genealogy. Did you know that birth records older than 1909 and death and marriage records that are older then 1959, are not accessible by anyone?

Ancestry.com has a list of links to all of its collections of New Hampshire records. In order to access the records, you must have an ancestry.com membership. Sometimes, a few collections will be offered for free. Return to their page often. Ancestry.com does a good job of making it clear when a collection is new, has been updated, or is being offered for free.

FamilySearch has a Wiki page about New Hampshire. There are links that will take you to more FamilySearch Wiki pages about a specific county in the state. You can also find links to websites for major repositories of New Hampshire records that are located outside of FamilySearch. A few more FamilySearch Wiki page links about New Hampshire collections are near the bottom of the page.

Internment.net has cemetery records online. It has a search engine at the top of its page. Start by putting in the first and last name of your ancestor. Or, you can begin by clicking the link for any of the counties within New Hampshire. All but one of them has information from cemeteries that are located within the county.
