Our Eleventh Prenatal Visit

These weekly visit come and go in the blink of an eye. It is astounding how quickly time seems to be going now that I am nearing the end of my pregnancy. Our last prenatal visit began with an ultrasound to check the position of the baby and the fluid levels and ended with our midwife coming to our house to get a feel for the flow of the space.

Before we head off to our visit with the midwife, I wake up early to get in a workout before we leave knowing that the day is going to be busy just like last week. After my workout, I wake up my husband and son and charge them to get something to eat before we leave (I of course had a Greek yogurt).

Once we arrive at our midwife’s, we head inside out of the cold, and I make a mad dash for the bathroom (I really have to go!) to collect my urine sample which checked out well. Then we all headed upstairs for the rest of our visit. First we go through a few items in preparation for the birth of our daughter (like supplies to have ready etc.). We go through my diet, exercise, and basic pregnancy questions. Then she takes my blood pressure which is good. Next comes the time to step on the scale, I gained one pound this week. She checks my shins and feet for swelling, so far so good! She asks about headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, spotting, cramping, and constipation to which I answer none to all. Then she draws blood to check my hemoglobin levels. Lastly, she checks the position of the baby (she is head down), measures my belly, and listens to the not only the baby’s heartbeat but the whoosh of the placenta and the vibration of the cord. Everything checked out well!
