Our Sixth Prenatal Visit

This may have been the longest three weeks that I have experienced in quite awhile. I have been a little anxious for this prenatal visit given my last prenatal visit and my excessive weight gain. I have been meticulous these last three weeks about my diet, writing everything done in my food journal. Hopefully the scale will speak for all of my hard work!

We arrived for our sixth prenatal visit a few minutes early, I headed for the carriage house bathroom with determination because I really had to go! Once again my urine was spot on (all the colors matched!). We made our way up the spiral staircase to the meeting area. First we discussed getting my blood work done to check my iron levels. Since we only needed one vile of blood for the hemoglobin test, my midwife drew the blood herself and had it picked up for screening, which saved us a trip to the hospital (thank goodness!) I am still not a fan of getting my blood drawn but it was nice to be in a more relaxing environment!

My midwife and I had discussed at my last appointment my thoughts on the gestational diabetes screening. During this visit I signed the waiver declining the gestational diabetes screening (no fasting and drinking nasty syrup for me!).

Next she took my blood pressure (it was great) and she checked my shins and feet for swelling (there was none). Then came the part I was dreading (yes even more than getting my blood drawn) checking my weight. To my relief I am on my way to getting back on track with my weight gain!

We talked about my diet, exercise, and supplements all of which are looking good (I started taking Kelp to supplement iodine since I do not use iodized table salt). In the third trimester (I am almost there) she has her clients start taking alfalfa so I need to add that soon.

All in all it was a very satisfying visit. I just need to stay focused on eating healthy and avoiding desserts (aside from the occasional chocolate indulgence)!
