LDS Week in Review – July 7th-12th

Welcome to our Week in Review! If you didn’t have the chance to join us every day here in LDS, here’s your opportunity to get caught up. We started off the week with “Dinner Discussions,” which helps keep us on track with our lessons. Then we had a review of Dallin H. Oaks’ conference talk on “Testimony.” Is your teen trying to decide whether or not to add seminary to his schedule? “Choose to Attend Seminary” will help him see that the blessings will be great if he’ll take that extra time to study the gospel more deeply. We continued … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 19

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson nineteen in the manuals. The primary lessons are a week behind the rest of the lessons. You should adjust the schedule according to your ward’s schedule. As you have the discussion be sure to encourage your children and be open to answer questions that may arise during the discussion. If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about being thankful that he can hear. The children learned the story of Jesus hearing the deaf man. They also discussed the things that they can hear. They may have also discussed … Continue reading

Establish a House

One of my favorite scriptures is Doctrine and Covenants 88:119. It reads: “Organize yourselves: establish every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” I like this scripture because it gives specific areas that you should work on. I am someone who likes to make goals and work towards specific things, and this scripture helps me to look at areas of my life that I might not otherwise consider. It is so important … Continue reading

Reasons to Fast

One of the most important parts of fasting is fasting with a purpose. This helps you to focus on the spiritual aspects of fasting. It can give you strength and guidance during difficult times. If you are fasting to help someone else, it can help you feel a greater lover for others. It is a great way to give service quietly. When you fast with a specific purpose in mind you should begin and end your fast in prayer. Additionally you should have an open heart throughout the day, so that you may hear any promptings you receive. If you … Continue reading

Meditation

It can be difficult to find time to sit and meditate. However, this is an important and essential thing to help keep our testimonies strong. As a mother to young children, I rarely get a quiet moment to focus on the things of the spirit, and when I do at the end of the day, I’m generally too exhausted to really be able to focus on things the way that I want to. Meditation is focusing and thinking on a certain subject. When I think of meditation in regards to my testimony, I think of it as a time to … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 42

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson 42 in the manuals. Junior primary and nursery classes are a week behind. This should bring everyone back onto the same schedule in regards to Stake conferences. You may also want to incorporate gratitude into your dinner discussions this week. If you have a child in nursery he learned that the scriptures came from Heavenly Father and Jesus. They learned that the scriptures teach about Jesus. They learned to handle the scriptures carefully. You may want to talk about why the scriptures are important with your child. If you have a child … Continue reading

The Physical Laws in Spirituality

Yesterday in Relief Society the teacher was discussing the things necessary to feel the spirit. She brought up an excellent point that our ability to feel the spirit is affected by physical laws as well. So often we focus only on being worthy of feeling the spirit, and doing the spiritual things to help yourself be open to feeling the promptings of the spirit that we forget that there is more to it. When you are tired, cranky or hungry, you are less able to focus on the spiritual promptings that may come. It is important that you take are … Continue reading

Seeking Revelation

There are times in each of our lives, when we must make choices regarding our future. There are times when we are seeking guidance to help us solve a problem that we are facing. We may be looking for a reason for our suffering or simply seeking comfort as we work through our trials. We are able to seek personal revelation through prayer with our Heavenly Father. It is important to realize that prayer is a two way communication, and that as we receive answers, we need to be prepared to act on those answers. We also need to give … Continue reading

Are You Unable to Fast?

There may be a time when you are not able to fast. This could be for medical reasons or because you are pregnant or nursing. You may also want to teach your younger children the concept of fasting, but feel that they are too young to go without food. When I can not physically fast (it has been four years due to pregnancy, nursing, pregnancy and nursing again), I try to have the spirit of fasting on fast day. Here are the five things that work for me. 1) I begin my fast period with a prayer, just as though … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 23

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson twenty-three for those in Senior Primary and older. The Junior Primary’s lessons are based on lesson twenty-two. You may need to adjust your discussions to match your ward’s schedule. Remember to keep your discussions upbeat and positive. If you have a child who is in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about all the things that he can do. He learned that Heavenly Father can help him to do things. They learned about David and Goliath and that with the Lord’s help they can accomplish anything. You may want to review the story … Continue reading
