I spend hours listening to it, and have a tendency to play a song that I am particularly fond of over and … Continue reading

Music in the Home

Excitement hit our house the other day. A CD I had ordered and been waiting on for over a month arrived – finally. I couldn’t wait to play it. I bought the CD initially on the strength of one song – In My Daughter’s Eyes by Martina McBride. The time I watched this on you tube it reduced me to tears. Some songs are like that. Thankfully I like the rest of the CD as well. Anyone coming to our house would see at a glance both Mick and I love music. For starters we have some of those really … Continue reading

Listen to the Music

What purpose does music and singing serve in church? To some people it may seem a pointless exercise. I mean how many other places do people gather together and sing? At a football game when passions are aroused or possibly at a karaoke night if that is your thing. So it’s not common for people to get together and sing these days, so why do it at church? Some people think it’s to set the mood. But music does more than that. When it is done properly music can set the whole tone of the service, it can reinforce the … Continue reading

Three Must Have CDs for Your Child’s Music Collection

Swimming in Noodles by Jim Cosgrove was just released on the 5th of this month. The CD contains 14 tracks of kid tunes that will appeal to even your music snob friends. The lyrics are hysterical and the music is solid. Kid music often contains subpar music but not this CD. The music touches on a variety of musical genres for you and your children to enjoy. I have owned quite few children’s CDs in my time and most only appealed to the children. This CD is one that you will be happy to pop in during long car rides. … Continue reading

New Disney Music Website

Fans of Disney’s teen musical acts, often teenagers themselves, now have yet another destination at which to spend time on the Disney Go website: Disney Music. Given that Disney’s been in the pop music business for years now, releases from their animated movie soundtracks notwithstanding, the only surprise is that the company hadn’t launched a music site this sophisticated until now. Disney Music brings the Mouse Company’s extensive catalog all into one place, but the focus is clearly on the Disney Channel’s recent teen sensations. Currently on the main page of the site visitors are greeted with Selena Gomez’s brand … Continue reading

Count on it: Music and Math

Does your preschooler love to learn about math? Mine does. She’s always counting things, especially the number of vegetable servings left until dessert. She has started to read numbers and loves to figure out where we are on the street by reading house addresses. She is also thinking about number sequences and working on jumping from one number in a sequence to the other without beginning at zero. Case in point: “Mom, how old are you? Thirty-three, dear. Oh, that means that you’ll be forty-five on your next birthday!” Ok, perhaps she doesn’t quite have the numbers-in-sequence thing yet. If … Continue reading

For the Strength of Youth Series: Music and Dancing

Ahh, the memories of stake youth dances and the Book of Mormon distance between partners. Most of the time I didn’t have a particular boy I liked, so these dances were most often a time to go with my group of friends and have fun being silly and wearing funny clothes just for kicks. A bit nerdy, perhaps, but good clean fun. The For the Strength of Youth pamphlet encourages youth (and adults alike) to choose good music and dancing for entertainment and to help you become closer to the Lord. Music is a fabulous way to share how you … Continue reading
