A Chocolate-Themed Home-Based Business Opportunity

I love chocolate. Not just any chocolate, though, it has to be good chocolate. Even though I am not in the market for a home-based business opportunity, I must admit that I was tempted when I heard about the Dove Chocolate Discoveries home-based chocolate business. This business opportunity combines direct selling with entertaining in a way that is similar to many home-party types of business opportunities. Independent sales representatives that participate in the Dove Chocolate Discoveries program are called Chocolatiers. Chocolatiers host chocolate tasting parties in their homes, and guests at the parties get to sample fun, chocolatey treats. Chocolatiers … Continue reading

Could You Trust Your Husband?

I wonder how many Mother’s Day, anniversary or birthday presents husbands have bought for their wives end up tucked away in the back of a cupboard, never to see the light of day or on their way back to the shop? Could you trust your husband to buy you an item or clothing, a handbag, a piece of jewelry, a CD or book you would like? Mick constantly astounds friends and acquaintances of ours by being able to buy clothes for me that not only fit but look nice, that I feel comfortable wearing as they are colors and styles … Continue reading

The Walt Disney Family Museum

To keep many of his animators from being drafted, Walt Disney struck a deal with the government to create promotional material during the Second World War. I’ve written twice now about things relating to The Walt Disney Family Museum, but I realized that I’ve never covered details about the museum itself. Before it opened it was examined here on the families.com Disney blog, but now that it’s been in operation for over a year let’s look at the institution again. The Walt Disney Family Museum was co-founded by Diane Disney Miller, eldest daughter of Walt Disney, and Richard Benefield in … Continue reading

The Temptation of the Farmer’s Market

At first, I was just there for the vegetables. But that is how they get you. The next thing you know, you are bringing along the kids and your husband. Now the whole family is involved. What was once a simple basket of fresh green beans for $2 has turned into a $25 shopping spree of artisan bread, granola and fancy $5 scones. What ever happened to the vegetables? The farmer’s market was such as a good idea at first. My favorite farmer grows his produce organically and has wonderful prices. I’ve gotten fresh peaches that melt in your mouth … Continue reading

Developing a Taste for Living Books

While the historical fiction area of my local library, I notice a woman talking. She was in a little sitting area behind me slouched on a couch. Across from her was this boy about 12 years old deeply involved in a book. I wondered for a moment if I should go save this kid from this crazy lady talking to herself. She then directed her attention on the boy. I stepped in a bit closer just in case I had my opportunity to be a superhero. Turns out the boy just learned the art of ignoring his mother. Finally he … Continue reading

Ginger for Nausea

Ginger is a natural way to curb morning sickness. While it may not work for everyone, it was the only thing that seemed to help me. I kept a few ginger chews with me at all times (chewy ginger candy with a powdered sugar coating). You can usually find ginger chews online or in specialty stores. I used to be able to find them at our local Costco World Market before it went out of business. Ginger candy is also available in sucker form, such as Preggie Pops, which you can find at Walgreens or Target. There are other ways … Continue reading

Yummy Mushrooms

I’m a big fan of mushrooms and try to forget the fact they really are fungi and think of them as vegetables. Unlike the Romans who believed mushrooms were a gift from God only to be used on special occasions, I use mushrooms a lot. When they are cheap I buy them in large quantities. I tend to put them in just about every casserole or crock pot meal I make as well as using them in pies, enchiladas, salads, quiche, and just about anything else I’m making or simply on their own. A trick my son-in-law taught me is … Continue reading
