Parents Call Police Because Grown Son Won’t Clean Room

My dad would always brag about how rich he would be if he had a dime for each time he had to utter this command: “Go clean your room!” It didn’t take much for my brothers and I to hastily retreat to our rooms for clean-up duty when we heard him making his way down the hall, but that was when we were 12. Can you imagine having to issue the clean-up command when your kid was 28 years old? A father in Ohio doesn’t have to think about it. Apparently, he does it all the time, and recently he … Continue reading

Hollywood Stars Adding to the Family

She’s used to getting paid to make people laugh, but now the joke’s on her. Wanda Sykes says her new twins are getting the last laugh now that they are home and turning her life upside down. Sykes and her wife, Alex, welcomed twins on April 27th, according to PEOPLE magazine. Daughter Olivia Lou weighed in at 6 lbs., 7 oz., and was 19-inches long, while son Lucas Claude debuted at 7 lbs., 9 oz., and was 20-inches long. The comedian’s wife gave birth to the babies, and is reportedly recuperating “very nicely” following the extended labor and delivery. Sykes, … Continue reading

Woody Allen Blocks While Maggie Gyllenhaal Adds

Woody Allen apparently does not want his ex-wife and his current wife to meet – at least not in the courts. He has asked a judge to prevent clothing company American Apparel from putting both ex Mia Farrow and current Soon-Yi Previn on the witness stand. Allen is suing American Apparel for $10 million dollars because they used his image on billboards and a website without his consent. One of the ads included a frame from the movie Annie Hall. In case you were wondering, Allen doesn’t endorse any products in the U.S. The billboards in New York and Hollywood … Continue reading

“Dancing with the Stars” Dropouts

They’re dropping like flies and the show hasn’t even started. ABC just announced that singer Jewel and Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell are withdrawing from Dancing with the Stars due to knee injuries. Execs at the alphabet network say both women suffered “significant injuries” during rehearsals in recent weeks. Jewel was diagnosed with a fractured tibia in both legs while O’Dell has a torn meniscus that will require surgery. DWTS’ executive producer says the injuries came from overtraining, though interestingly the exec noted that as happened last season with pro volleyball player Misty May-Treanor, Jewel and O’Dell “threw themselves into … Continue reading

Billy Bob Thornton – a Curse to Co-Stars?

I like Billy Bob Thornton. Oh, I know, he can be a bit freaky in real life with the vial of blood around his neck (when he and Angelina were still together) and the fear of antiques (what is that all about?). But, I think he is an excellent actor with a certain kind of quirky charm. However, could being in a film with him be harming his fellow co-stars? If you’ve read my blogs before, you know I enjoy the dark side of Hollywood, so how could I have missed the fact that some think there is a Billy … Continue reading

Stars Celebrate Obama Win

Oprah Winfrey was front and center last night in Grant Park as her “boy” Barack Obama addressed a crowd of about 200,000 screaming supporters as the nation’s first African American President-elect. Winfrey has long claimed that she is Obama’s No. 1 fan, so it was no surprise that the TV talk show queen was on hand in Chicago to watch him make history. In fact, not only did Winfrey show up to the massive public rally in Grant Park she brought along her BFF Gayle King and Brad Pitt as well. “It feels like hope won,” Winfrey told news reporters. … Continue reading

‘Twas the Night Before Halloween

Here’s something way, way, way off the normal course of offerings from me to you here in the Pets Blog. My attempt at paying homage to a classic holiday poem, “The Night Before Christmas” by Clement C. Moore –but with a twist. And it stars my three little monkeys: Murphy, Mr. Meow and Tabby. (Along with some seasonally appropriate Halloween cohorts, of course.) I’ll warn you now I’m no poet. Most of the rhyming is a stretch, the meter’s off, and who knows if any of it makes any sense, but this is what taking a nap the day before … Continue reading

Chewing the Fat on “Dancing with the Stars”

The next time Dancing with the Stars’ Cheryl Burke and Lacey Schwimmer gear up to kick it on the dance floor they may be aiming their feet directly at fellow pros Louis van Amstel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s rear ends. The ladies are reportedly displeased (to put it mildly) with the recent comments van Amstel and Chmerkovskiy made to TV Guide about the size of their… um… assets. “When I first saw these women this season, I said, ‘Guys, you know the camera adds 10 pounds,’” Chmerkovskiy complained to the magazine. “‘You have to do something about this.” Van Amstel also … Continue reading

Halloween Candy Competition Among Parents

There’s one in every neighborhood—-the home where you know you can score a king-size candy bar on Halloween as opposed to those tiny fun-size bars (which are really not all that “fun” unless you can cram 10 in your mouth at one time). King-size candy bars came courtesy of the Duerr family in my neighborhood. They had five kids, which explains a lot in terms of their generosity (with that many kids they were used to hosting half the neighborhood on a daily basis) and their choice of premium chocolate (one Halloween they handed out regular-size bars of Ghirardelli Chocolate … Continue reading

“Dancing with the Stars” Curse Continues

Looks like MTV is not the only cursed network around. Just ask Olympic beach volleyball champ and current “DWTS” contestant Misty May-Treanor. The gold medal athlete is recovering from a nasty spill that sent her to the hospital Friday afternoon. According to a statement released by ABC, the muscular looker was practicing her dance routine with pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy when she sustained an injury that required hospitalization. Network execs wouldn’t elaborate on the nature of May-Treanor’s injury, though they did deny that she broke her ankle. The 31-year-old Olympic gold medallist has made it no secret that dancing in … Continue reading
