Drs. Parrott Marriage Book Blog Tour Coming to Families.com

Shortly after I returned home earlier this month I received an intriguing email. It was from a Mr. Michael Pritchard with Zondervan. His subject line read “Courtney, Les and Leslie Parrott Marriage Book Blog Tour Invitation.” Marriage? Books? Blogs? Some kind of tour and an invitation? Didn’t look like the run of the mill spam. Turns out it wasn’t. Zondervan is a big Christian publisher and here they were asking me to help them with a very cool promotion idea. The chance to read Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott’s newest book Trading Places: The Best Move You’ll Ever Make in … Continue reading

What Kind of Wife…

I’m attributing this title to Jade Walker, who gave me the idea from a PM she wrote to me about the Eliot Spitzer prostitution ring scandal. I’m sure you’ve already thought of this…But what kind of woman stands by her man when he publicly acknowledges using the services of a high-priced call girl? What kind of woman stands by her man when he’s outed via extortion? What kind of woman stands by her man when an affair with an intern is revealed…to the world? And what kind of message does this send to other wives (and their daughters)? ~-Jade Walker-~ … Continue reading

John Lennon’s One-Of-A-Kind Birthday Present

Ten days from now one of John Lennon’s dreams will finally come true. On what would have been the legendary singer’s 67th birthday, his wife, Yoko Ono will unveil the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland. Ono said the monument is something that she and Lennon spoke about at length more than 40 years ago and now, finally, their dream is coming to fruition. The Imagine Peace Tower is a light sculpture that will beam light from a wishing well bearing the words “imagine peace” in 24 languages. The tower’s light will glow each year from October 9th to December … Continue reading

A Traditional, Yet Unconventional, Wife

Yesterday I gave you a little background about myself and how I view love, relationships, and marriage. Today I thought I’d expand on that a little bit more. I’m still trying to figure out who I am. Just when I think I’ve got it nailed, some new dimension –usually one that’s in contrast to some other aspect of myself—pops up. This definitely keeps things interesting in my relationship with Wayne! Old-Fashioned… In many ways I’m old-fashioned. I don’t see anything wrong with the husband being the breadwinner or the wife staying home to tend the hearth and kids. I did … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review – May 21 – May 25

What a week here in the Marriage Blog and what a week for many couples around the country who saw the school year ending and got ready to launch their summer vacations. Summer vacations for couples can provide a lot of opportunities and challenges. We’re going to take a look at those in the common weeks as well as our focus on weddings just in time for June. Also, don’t forget, this summer also plays host to the lucky day that many brides and grooms are looking forward to on July 7, 2007 – or 777 as they call it. … Continue reading

Honor Your Wife

It is important that you take time to honor your wife on Mother’s Day. Whether or not you have any children, your wife is a very special woman in your life. If you do have children, it is important that you remind them to honor your wife as well. Honoring your wife on Mother’s Day does not necessarily mean that you need to spend money on gifts or flowers (though these things are nice). Honoring your wife really has more to do with the way that you treat her on a daily basis. The words that you use when you … Continue reading

The Kitchen God’s Wife – Amy Tan

Amy Tan’s writing is rich with beautiful imagery, taking the reader and placing them right in the heart of China. With everything from the words she uses to the way she strings them together, she creates a tale so overflowing with atmosphere, you feel as though you’ve left America and traveled the world in your mind, immersing yourself in a culture rich with tradition and heritage, which may be different from your own but yet welcomes you as a visitor and guest. In “The Kitchen God’s Wife,” we meet mother and daughter, Winnie and Pearl. Pearl is in her forties … Continue reading

Signs of a Cheating Wife or Not?

I recently got into a lively discussion with a few friends about what constitutes signs of cheating for a wife. I love these kinds of discussions especially when the majority of participants are married and aren’t basing our argument on anything more than personal experience and opinions. So, with their amusement and permission, here’s a look at the signs we’ve compiled and some personal comments on them. Signs of Cheating or no? The collective wisdom of our group (comprised of 4 married participants and 1 soon-to-be-married) the signs of a cheating wife include: She maintains her prescription for birth-control pills … Continue reading

Blogging Your Baby

In 2005, I received a beautiful journal, complete with leather covering, as a Christmas present from my wife. She bought it for me because I mentioned that I wanted to write a bit about my experiences as a father and have a conversation with my daughter. I did not begin to make entries until May of 2006, and they were sporadic at best. Then within a month or two I had stopped completely. I stared at it every day on my dresser, but the guilt was not enough to pick it up and write. How lazy can I possibly be? … Continue reading

The Proverbs 31 Woman: The Virtuous Wife

A friend of mine did a Bible study on the Proverbs 31 woman where she was asked to apply the scripture to her own life. As per her suggestion, I too would like to do this. I would also like to encourage other woman to look at the example set forth in the Bible of The Virtuous Wife and apply it to your lives as well: The Virtuous Wife 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. … Continue reading
