January Genealogy Webinars

You can take in a genealogy seminar from the comfort of your own home, and through your very own computer. They are called webinars and can be about any topic at all, including genealogy. Here are a few to check out that will be coming up the next couple of weeks. Ancestry.com has started doing webinars through LiveStream once again. It seemed to me that they went on a hiatus for a while (but I could be wrong about that). In order to attend these webinars, you must RSVP. They have several coming up this month. Each will start at … Continue reading

Gifted Kids More Likely to Use Drugs as Teens

A study shows that kids who have a high IQ are more likely to use illicit drugs when they become teenagers and adults than are their peers (who have a lower IQ). Parents of gifted kids need to be aware of the reasons that influence smart kids to use drugs. You might want to have that talk about the dangers of drugs before your child becomes a teenager. A study was done by researchers from Cardiff University and University College London. They found that kids who score high on IQ tests are more likely to grow up to become a … Continue reading

Mommy Secrets Revealed

If you were anywhere near the Internet today, then you likely saw the headliner of the summer courtesy of NBC’s Today show: “Moms Confess Their Deepest, Darkest Secrets.” Ooooooooohhhh! The mere title is enough to raise one’s hair, blood pressure… and more importantly, traffic on the morning show’s website. If you were like millions of curious moms around the world, once you clicked on the “Secrets” link, you learned that the confessions had little to do with tawdry trysts with the neighbor’s pool boy or a panache for pilfering Pina Colada mix from the in-laws. Rather, the top-secret secrets moms … Continue reading

Not So Smart After All?

Human beings are supposed to be intelligent and smarter than the animal and bird kingdom right? But maybe we’re not so smart after all. Sometimes we could take note and learn from them. For example we have a dog, part Shih Tzu part Maltese Terrier. Whenever Mick and I come home, no matter whether we have been gone five minutes or hours, she is so pleased to see us she lets us know by greeting us enthusiastically and affectionately. Do we show the same enthusiasm when our spouse comes home? Mick and I always kiss and hug before one of … Continue reading

Spanking Makes Kids Dumb?

A new study claims that the more a child is spanked, the lower his IQ is. My first thought when I heard the study was that perhaps the child with the lower IQ was less obedient and that is why they got more spankings. The study also claims to refute that point. For the life of me, I can’t imagine how hitting a child on the butt removes smart cells from his brain. The whole study just seems very peculiar. According to a MSNBC article on the subject, “Straus and his colleague Mallie Paschall of the Pacific Institute for Research … Continue reading

Will Divorce Make You Happier?

You’ve decided that love is no longer in your marriage. You’re considering whether the smarter option is to split up and go your separate ways. Should you divorce? Would it make you happier? Not necessarily. That’s the findings of a summary of households and families in the US. The report was conducted using information available from the National Survey of Family and Households. Of over 5200 married men and women interviewed in the 1980s, 645 people admitted that they were unhappily married. The same men and women were interviewed again five years down the track. Some had chosen to divorce, … Continue reading

Frugal Ceiling Stars

Kids just love those glow-in-the-dark stars that you stick to the ceiling, don’t they. They are generally made out of plastic or come in sticker form.
