Weighing In On…A Husband Who Recruits Female Friends

Last week I sent invitations to friends to become Amazon Friends and Shelfari Friends. One invite went to a writer friend I hadn’t talked to in a couple of weeks. We had the usual “How’re things?” chat, in which she mentioned she was having a less than stellar day. I asked if everything was okay and offered an ear if she needed it. Well, she took me up on it, and for the past few days we’ve had an interesting exchange. I was shocked to learn this beautiful and talented woman (who has asked I please keep her identity anonymous, … Continue reading

What She Left for Me – Tracie Peterson

This Christian fiction novel is a blazing testament to the importance of forgiveness. However, it’s not an easy read and I offer that upfront. The author herself admits this – she includes a note at the beginning, stating that the book deals with issues of infidelity and abuse, and that she would recommend mothers read it before handing it over to their daughters. I agree with her caution, but that doesn’t keep me from recommending the book. Bad things happen to good people – and we need to know to Whom we can turn for deliverance from it. Eleanor Templeton … Continue reading

Awards, Bodyguards, and Weimaraners: An Interview With Christy Tillery French

Christy Tillery French claims she always loved writing but then “life got in the way (I got married and had two kids) and didn’t begin writing again until I started my own business and during unbusy periods would write to amuse myself. Before I knew it, I had written five novels….” An interesting way to start on a track that has brought her many acclaims, including Who’s Who recognition on lists like Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who of American Women (just to name a couple), a 2006 Reviewers’ Choice Award, and a Maxwell Award nomination. Oh, and she’s … Continue reading

I have six children, three boys and three girls, ranging from three to sixteen years. My oldest is a senior in high school and will attend BYU next year on an academic scholarship. He’ll start as a junior because he’s already finished his associate degree. He’s a great example to … Continue reading

Where is the Glow?

When I first found out I was pregnant, I remember feeling equal parts excited and nervous. There was the initial disbelief and the waiting until I could take a second home pregnancy test to confirm my initial findings. That nervousness expanded to real butterflies and I called my doctor. I went in and one blood test later – we knew for certain I was pregnant. What was more amazing was that I discovered my pregnancy just two and a half weeks into the pregnancy – so I had LOTS of time to savor this experience over the coming months, The … Continue reading

Living Within Your Means

I recently saw part of a skit on Saturday Night Live titled “Don’t Buy Things You Can’t Afford” with Steve Martin where a married couple were absolutely perplexed about the idea of saving for a purchase rather than making a purchase with a credit card. Another actor kept stating over and over in an infomercial type voice “Don’t buy things you can’t afford” to which Steve Martin would respond “Oh, so buy it on my credit card now so I can have it?” It was a hilarious look into American society’s buying habits. One of my goals this year is … Continue reading
