Labor Day Sales at Kohl’s, Target, Amazon, and More!

There tend to be a lot of deals and sales that pop up right around Labor Day weekend. I think it is because this is when many people will have an extra day off of work. Retailers want to take advantage of the potential to get some extra traffic into their stores. Here are some random deals that are going on this weekend. Kohl’s is having their “Biggest Gold Star Clearance” sale. Items in their clearance section are 60% to 80% off the original price. I think this sale lasts until they run out of clearance items. Kohl’s is having … Continue reading

Fitness in Middle Age Impacts Later Years

I know there is supposed to be some rule that women never divulge their age. But I have never believed in that—or perhaps it’s just that I tend to have a rebellious side in me. I have no problem letting people know that I am 43 years old. In fact, when I turned 40, I felt terrific. It felt like the best of my years were just beginning. Apparently there is something else about the 40’s that could make a significant difference in your later years…your level of physical activity. In a recent study, there was strong evidence that those … Continue reading

Celebrity Vegans – Part 3

And my final installment of celebrity vegans. Here’s a few actors left over from the last blog plus a hodgepodge of others: Casey Affleck – Ben Affleck’s younger brother is also an animal rights activist who decided to go vegan. Woody Harrelson – How could anyone as green as Harrelson not be a vegan? He committed to the diet at the fairly young age of 24. He credits it with providing him with more energy and glowing skin. Ted Danson – Harrelson’s co-star on “Cheers,” Danson, an environmentalist, just recently became a vegan in an attempt to naturally lower his … Continue reading

Clue About Male Pattern Baldness Could Lead to Treatment

Scientists have discovered something interesting about male pattern baldness. This clue could, potentially, lead to treatment for it. This is probably very exciting news for people who have a family history of this particular type of hair loss. Male pattern baldness is also called androgenetic alopecia (AGA). It tends to affect more men than women, which is probably why it is generally called male pattern baldness. However, women can also experience this form of hair loss. It has been known for quite some time that male pattern baldness runs in families. Men whose fathers, or grandfathers, lost their hair at … Continue reading

Poll Finds Americans are Uneasy About Mixing Religion and Politics

A poll done by the Pew Research Center shows that Americans have become increasingly uneasy with the idea of mixing religion and politics. The reason for this has a whole lot to do with the battle over birth control coverage in employer sponsored health insurance. The Pew Research Center, according to it’s website, is “a non-partisan fact tank that provides information on the issues, attitude and trends shaping America and the world.” It conducts public opinion polling, and other types of empirical social science research. The Pew Research Center does not take positions on policy issues. It just gathers data … Continue reading

What’s That, Up in the Sky!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, and it isn’t Superman, either. Farmers’ Insurance has something that no other insurance company can match. They have their very own zeppelin. You might see it in the sky, floating over your city, someday. The insurance company also lets people go for a zeppelin ride. Farmers’ Insurance has a tendency to do things that are a little bit out of the ordinary in order to get people’s attention. They recently did a commercial that featured one the characters from the latest X-Men movies. Apparently, Beast decided to become an insurance agent. … Continue reading

Farmers Insurance to Appear in Zynga Games This Summer

If you have a Facebook account, then odds are that you have had things posted on your page by your friends who want you to play one of the many games that exist in Facebook. Lots of those are made by a company named Zynga. Last year, Farmers Insurance made an appearance in Farmville. There are bigger plans for Farmers Insurance and Zynga this year. Farmers Insurance is an actual, “real life”, insurance company. They sell auto insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, and insurance for businesses. This insurance company seems to think outside of the box when it comes to … Continue reading
