Music News: April 3, 2009

Quite a few things going on in the music world today. Rapper Coolio has pleaded not guilty to one felony drug charge and misdemeanor counts of battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 10 after screeners at the Los Angeles International Airport reportedly found drugs in his luggage. The battery charge was issued when Coolio grabbed the arm of a TSA official who was trying to search his luggage. If convicted, Coolio could face up to three years in prison. Right now, he is out on $10,000 bail and awaiting his next court hearing, which is … Continue reading

Paul Newman Dead at 83

I was scanning Yahoo Entertainment news this morning, when I saw a small heading at the bottom that said “Legendary Actor Paul Newman Dies at Age 83.” I had already clicked on another link, then it hit me what I had actually read. I went back and sure enough, way down at the bottom of the page was this heading! I checked CNN, Fox News, USA Today, desperately looking for another confirmation, especially after my premature obituaries blog. But, there was nothing there. Paul Newman at a political rally for Eugene McCarthy in the parking lot of Kohl’s in Menominee … Continue reading

Oh My… Miley! G-Rated Star Appears in PG-13 Photos

So, by now I’m sure you are well aware of the whole Miley Cyrus provocative photo brouhaha. For those of you who have been blissfully living in a media-free world allow me to give you an update: The 15-year-old squeaky-clean Disney star might want to stay away from digital cameras for a while. The teen is currently embroiled in two front-page controversies both of which involve racy pictures of her. Last week the singer-actress went on the defensive when “playfully provocative” photos of her posing on her ex-boyfriend’s lap showed up on the Internet. (Cyrus called them “silly.”) In one … Continue reading

The Cheetah Girls (2003)

Sabrina Bryan was my favorite competitor in this last season of “Dancing with the Stars.” I knew she was a Cheetah Girl, but to be honest, all I really knew was that the Cheetah Girls were some kind of girl group. They’ve certainly created quite the sensation amongst the preteen set, so I decided I’d watch this movie and see what the fuss was about. Raven stars as Galleria (yeah, that’s right) a teenager who writes music. Together with her friends Aqua (Kiely Williams), Chanel (Adrienne Bailon), and Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan) they are the Cheetah Girls, a band that sings … Continue reading

Hollywood Writers’ Strike—Week 3: Movie Alert

It’s week three of the Hollywood writers’ strike and despite the announcement that both sides are headed back to the bargaining table after Thanksgiving, things don’t appear to be improving for the TV or movie industry. In fact, Variety is now reporting that the film industry saw its first group of flicks go up in smoke (hopefully not permanently). According to the new report, “Angels & Demons,” the prequel to the box office hit “The Da Vinci Code,” reuniting Tom Hanks and director, Ron Howard, has been put on hold due to script problems. The thriller was scheduled for a … Continue reading

Pop Culture Updates: Harry, Sampson and “The Simpsons”

JUST WILD ABOUT HARRY We all know by now that Harry Potter, the fictional boy wizard, is a pop culture icon. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” smashed all sales records this weekend (8.3 million copies of the book were sold in the first 24 hours). But, there’s another record the book has earned that you may not have heard about. According to the National Braille Press, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” was made available to the blind at the same time sighted readers could purchase their print versions. The Boston-based publisher says that is an extremely rare occurrence … Continue reading

Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – June 13, 2007

The Sopranos Wrap It Up Whether you are a Sopranos fan or not, you have probably heard the last episode, after a successful six season run on HBO, just aired. However, it did not go out with a bit bang, but an ambiguous ending that most fans seemed to hate. Almost 12 million watched the finale as mobster Tony Soprano’s show ended in gunfire, but with a few dull moments in a restaurant followed by a black screen and silence. I never even watched The Sopranos, but after seeing the ending on Youtube, even I was disappointed! Fans reacted, mostly … Continue reading

Charles Nelson Reilly: 1931 – 2007

Charles Nelson Reilly died yesterday of complications due to pneumonia at the age of 76. I was sad to read this today, as Charles Nelson Reilly was a part of my childhood. When I was younger, I was addicted to game shows. Well, nothing has really changed much, I still love games shows, but back in the 70s, many of them seemed so adult and edgy. One of my favorites, of course, was “Match Game.” Gene Rayburn was the host and there were several celebrity panelists that regularly appeared on the show. Charles Nelson Reilly always held court along with … Continue reading

Special Offers at Aulani, Disney’s Hawaii Resort

As winter approaches (or does more than approach, slamming some parts of the country with storms), we already want to turn our thoughts toward spring.  While there’s nothing we can do to make the months go by faster, perhaps what we can do is avoid the cold weather for a while by vacationing somewhere warm.  A dream vacation for many is Hawaii, and for Disney fans, that can mean one thing: Aulani. Disney’s Aulani Resort, located on Oahu, has recently joined the list of Disney destinations that get their own special offers page.  The resort is so popular that even … Continue reading
