Putting Some Spring In Your House

When the weather starts getting warm I start getting that spring cleaning/home improvement madness that will plague me until September.

Cleaning my house is not enough, I want a change, and I want it to be a noticeable change. The easiest way to make a change is to paint a room. I love to paint, wait, no I don’t. I think I love to paint until I start moving furniture and taping the room off and then I remember I don’t like it but I’ve already bought the paint. By that time I’m already into it and really, once all the prep work is done it takes no time to paint.

I love the way a room looks with new paint, and I’m very adventurous with color. My main bath is bright pink and my family room is creamsicle orange. I know how it sounds but it works. So paint a room for a quick change, even your old furniture will look new again. If you find a crazy color you love but think it’s too much, paint just one wall.

Speaking of painting, paint your front door. Even if you don’t want to change the color a fresh coat of paint on the door and the door frame will brighten up your entry and make it more welcoming. At the very least scrub that front door, they accumulate a lot of grime.

Get rid of any heavy rugs, throw pillows and blankets. Spring is the time for light and airy. If you don’t have other ones to swap out, just remove them. Taking that heavy material out of your rooms will change the feeling, make it airier. The same goes for heavy curtains. Remove them and hang something light and gauzy, not only will the heavy material be gone but they will let more light in.

If you have a room that doesn’t seem to get enough natural light hang a collage of mirrors on the wall across from the door to reflect even more light in the room.

Get adventurous and bring some spring into your house.
