Returning to the Airwaves: Joan and Genie

She’s baaaack!

If would rather undergo root canal than hear Joan Rivers’ cackle then you might not want to tune into the upcoming season of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

The 75-year-old comedienne says she has signed up to become real estate mogul Donald Trump’s next slackee. Though, producers for the NBC primetime show say they cannot confirm Rivers’ appearance until the show’s airdate gets closer.

The reality TV series’ new season is set to be taped this fall and is scheduled to air next January.

According to Rivers, Trump asked her to appear on last season’s show, but scheduling conflicts prevented her from participating.

Now, she says she is ready to rumble… only she’s never seen a single episode of the show.

No matter Rivers says, “They’re going to send me tapes.”

Good luck… to the other contestants that have to deal with her.

I think they should bring back last season’s winner, “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan so he can trade barbs with the queen of plastic surgery.

One star, who will undoubtedly be embraced by fans upon returning to TV, is Genie Francis.

The 46-year-old actress is returning to the show that made her a household name– “General Hospital.”

According to show producers, Francis will reprise her role as Laura on the ABC daytime soap opera beginning August 26th.

The actress began playing Laura in 1976. Five years later she landed on the cover of Newsweek magazine when her character married Luke (played by Anthony Geary) in a fairytale wedding that was watched by a record 30 million viewers.

As for this go-round, Francis told reporters that her return is just temporary.

“This is a short visit,” Francis says. “It’s a mother-daughter story. Years ago when I started playing the character as a 14-year-old girl, it was a mother-daughter story, only I was the daughter. So it’s kinda cool this is full circle. It’s nice to come back for visits. ‘General Hospital’ is my home.”

The last time Francis returned to the show in 2007 she won a Daytime Emmy for her efforts. Back then Laura was slipping in and out of a catatonic state. In August Laura will be reunited with her daughter Lulu, but that’s about as much as producers will reveal.

Are you excited that Francis is returning to “General Hospital” if only for a short time?
