Scarves Are Everywhere

The scarf seems to be the go to accessory this year. I love scarves, there are so many types and they are made from all different materials. What’s not to love. Here are a few basic scarves that you can make in no time at all. Most require two yards of material, that will make more than one scarf but you need two yards for the length.

Cut a piece of fabric anywhere from six inches to twelve inches wide, the length of your fabric. Depending on what you are going to do you may want to cut two lengths and sew them together.

Scarfs can be made out of just about any material, I like soft and silky but a nice, soft cotton is nice as well.

Once you have your fabric there are so many things you can do with it. You can hem the edges and just knot it around your neck. If you purchase a knit fabric you don’t even have to hem it.

One of my favorite things to do is use elastic thread. Take your scarf and sew three rows, side by side, of elastic thread. This will gather the middle and make the sides kind of ruffly.

Or you can space the rows of elastic thread for a different look. You can also sew the elastic thread in open loops, in S like curves, making sure to get close to the edges. This will give the scarf a more bubbly look.

You can sew two lengths of fabric together and then sew the ends together to create an infinity scarf, just loop it over your head several times to get the look you want.

Scarves can have the edges unsewn so they will fray a little, this adds a completely different look to your scarf.

Choose different fabric for different seasons, maybe something furry for winter.

Buy some clearance fabric and experiment, don’t’ be afraid, it’s hard to mess up a scarf!
