Seven Year Old Cancer Patient Meets Justin Bieber

Justin BieberMillie Flamm is seven years old. She had concert tickets to see Justin Bieber, but was too sick to attend and had to sell the tickets. To make it up to her, Justin Bieber came to visit her and her family in private before the concert.

There certainly seem to be a lot of little girls who adore Justin Bieber! Millie Flamm is one of them. She is seven years old, and was going to attend his concert at the Energy Solutions Arena, in Utah. Unfortunately, her cancer relapsed two weeks before the concert, and she was too sick to go. Her family ended up selling the tickets.

Millie has leukemia. She has been battling it for three years. According to the Mayo Clinic leukemia is cancer of the body’s blood forming tissues. This includes the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. There is more than one type of leukemia. Some are more common in children, and others are more common in adults.

Symptoms can include fever or chills, persistent fatigue and/or weakness, and frequent infections. It can also include swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver or spleen, and easy bleeding or bruising. Another symptom is tiny red spots on the skin (called petechiae).

Treatment can, potentially, include a variety of things. It might consist of chemotherapy, biological therapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy or a stem cell transplant. Some forms of treatment can result in hair loss, and that is what happened to Millie.

When Millie’s cancer relapsed, her family and friends started an online and social media campaign to have Justin Bieber come and visit Millie. The girl’s mother, Amanda Flamm, worried that Millie would be too sick to meet him. Millie had been running a fever and was on oxygen.

Things worked out very well. Justin Bieber came to visit Millie and her family. Millie’s face lit up. He sang his song “Baby” to her while holding her hand. He also gave Millie his guitar pic. Before Justin left to preform at the concert, he gave Millie a kiss on her cheek. After this, Millie said to her mother:

You are never going to wash my face again.

This isn’t the first time that Justin Bieber took the time to meet with a young fan who was battling cancer. In February of 2012, he had a “date” with a six year old named Avalanna Routh. She was battling a very rare form of cancer called AT/RT, or atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor.

What did Justin and Avalanna do on their “date”? They played Candyland. They signed their autographs on each other’s hands, and Justin let Avalana style his hair in her own way. The two exchanged kisses on the cheek.
