Shoes for My Daughter Part I

Since my daughter’s birth, a little over a year ago, I have been buying her shoes.  I never really worried about shoes for my son when he was an infant, but for some reason I felt that my daughter ought to have shoes to go with her cute little outfits, especially her dresses.

The first I dress I bought for my daughter after she was born was her Christmas dress.  I bought it only a couple days before Christmas in utter desperation because that outfit that I had bought for this very special occasion was too big.   As luck would have it, my favorite children’s consignment shop had just got in a newborn size red velvet dress with a matching hat and shoes.  While the shoes looked incredibly cute alongside the dress and hat, they were quite hideous on her little newborn feet because they were far too wide.  I am sure no one really noticed especially since she continuously kicked them off her feet (she apparently was not a fan).

I know that shoes are not all that important for non walking infants, but that did not stop me from purchasing two more pairs of consignment shoes for my daughter.  I was desperate to match some shoes with her cream and  silvery gold brocade party dress for a New Year’s Eve party. I found a pair of black Mary Janes and a pair of silver ballet flats.  Neither “matched” the dress really well but the silver ones were not so easily kicked off and went on more easily.

My daughter really had no interest in wearing shoes but I still persisted in searching for shoes for her.  Once summertime was upon us, I really should have let the whole shoe obsession go but I did not.  I found her a pair of pink soft sole infant shoes and a pair of “jellies” (so ridiculous)!  I ended up loaning both pairs to my sister for her daughter (even though she is three months older, her feet are smaller than my daughter’s).  Consequently, my daughter never wore either pair…
