Small Budget Kitchen Makeovers

Improve your kitchen without the cost. Use the following ideas and strategies to give your kitchen new life without having to come up with a way to pay for it.

Replace the Kitchen Hardware

Just replacing old outdated and dingy hardware in the kitchen can make a big difference in the feel and the look of the space. You can pay as little as $3 per piece when you install new knobs and door pulls. There is a wide variety of different designs and finishes, so you are sure to find an updated look that you like.

Apply a New Coat of Paint

Paint is relatively inexpensive, and it can brighten the kitchen as soon as it goes on the walls and/or cabinets. For $20 to $80 per gallon of paint, you’ll have a big impact on your kitchen. Paint can cover a myriad of “sins” from dingy walls to scuffed up cabinets.

Add Shelving

Placing some inexpensive shelving on a wall as open shelving for dishware or other items to display gives and outdated kitchen a new, modern look. Consider placing some wainscoting behind the shelves for an even greater impact. No all space? It might make sense to remove some of your cabinet doors for the open shelf look. Expect to pay about $60-$100 for three finished shelves.

Install Lighting

If your kitchen is dull and dark, installing some lighting just might do the trick to brighten things up, set the mood and make using the room easier and more pleasant. There are so many choices out there in lighting, from flush ceiling mounted lights, to pendants to under cabinet lighting. Prices can vary, depending on how elaborate you want your fixtures to be, but you can get away with light fixtures for as little as $30 a piece. Depending on whether or not you can do it yourself, you may also incur labor cost.
